What Is First Goal Scorer Betting?
First Goal Scorer (FGS) is a market where you predict which player will score the opening goal of the match. The bet wins regardless of what happens after the first goal — the final result, the total goals, or who else scores are all irrelevant. Only one condition matters: your selected player must score before anyone else. If the match ends 0-0, or your player never scores, the bet loses. There is no refund for goalless draws in standard FGS markets.
How Our FGS Model Works
Our FGS model combines four inputs per player per match. First, we calculate each player's xG per 90 minutes from current-season data — this measures the quality of scoring opportunities generated, not just goals scored, and is more stable and predictive than raw goal counts. Second, we factor in shots per 90 as a volume measure — a player who generates 4+ shots per game has more opportunities to be first scorer than one generating 2. Third, we apply a positional multiplier: central strikers and penalty-box-focused forwards structurally generate more first-half chances than withdrawn midfielders or defensive players. Fourth, we weight for match context — opposing defensive rating, home/away, and the expected total goals for the fixture (a higher-scoring fixture means a greater probability that any given player is first scorer).
The output is an individual FGS probability per player, which we compare to the market's implied probability from the offered odds. We only publish picks where the market implies less than our model gives — and in cases where the published market price gives a negative edge (Kane at 3.50, Mbappé at 4.00), we explicitly say so and provide the breakeven price.
FGS Win Rate and Staking
Our FGS tips track at a 22% win rate over 90 days at average odds of 5.20. Expected return: 22% × 5.20 = 1.14 units per unit staked — a slim but genuine positive expected value. FGS is inherently high-variance: even a 26% probability pick loses 74% of the time. Every tip on this page recommends a maximum stake of 0.5 units. We do not recommend staking more than 1% of your bankroll on any individual FGS pick. Evaluate results over a minimum sample of 50 FGS tips.
